The Free Company

A seasonal restaurant on a regenerative farm

A farm to table restaurant on a regenerative farm at the foot of the Pentland Hills

The Free Company is a regenerative farm, seasonal restaurant and learning space at the foot of the Pentland Hills near Edinburgh run by brothers Angus and Charlie who are passionate about food and farming.  The traditional agricultural buildings are used to host seasonal suppers, corporate events and all sorts of agritourism activities.

  • The Free Company had been running from the steading on Cockdurno Farm for almost 10 years when Angus and Charlie got in touch with Building Workshop. Their brief was to change everything - and as little as possible! To work within the constraints of the existing buildings, to help the Free Company to use their buildings to their full potential, considering flexibility, adaptability and accessibility while retaining their agricultural charm and character.

The steading building houses The Free Company’s seasonal farm to table restaurant and is also used for a variety of events including farm visits, weddings and corporate days.
