A House in the Woods

A creative restoration in Perthshire’s woodland wilderness

Reimagining a ruined country home for a contemporary rural family

Lost for over 50 years in an opening surrounded by broadleaf trees, this category C listed country home was abandoned and in a semi-ruined state with collapsed roofs, deteriorating stonework and rotten timbers.  The garden was filled with rusted cars from the 1950s and the house’s interior a crumbling museum of times gone by.

  • Discovered by our clients during a weekend walk, they saw potential where others had seen ruin. An ambitious vision was created and Building Workshop invited to work with the family to breathe new life into this structure. The brief was to restore and retain everything that was special about the 200 year old building, while creating a contemporary rural family home in this beautiful woodland setting.
